Wheelchair Racing |
James started wheelchair racing in 1990. He races in track meets, marathons and various other wheelchair races throughout the year. In 1993, he was selected to be a part of the U.S. Team for a championship held near London, Stoke-Mandeville Game. He won three gold, one silver and one bronze medals. Looking for the next challenge, he learned about Sadler's Ultra Challenge in Alaska and signed up for the first time in 1995. It is the world longest wheelchair race that takes place every summer going from Fairbanks to Anchorage for the distance of 267 miles over six days. As of 2006, James has participated in Sadler's Midnite Challenge 8 times. No other racer has done it this many times. He took the first place in 2002, second place five times and third place twice. |
